Chelmsford Referees’ Society was formed in 1947 and now has one of the largest memberships within Essex, currently at around 100 members. We are constantly looking at ways of recruiting new members as well as retaining our existing ones. At the grassroots level of refereeing it can be a more challenging environment. Invariably, we are working without Assistant Referees and it is a lot easier to hear the views of spectators!. We meet on the fourth Thursday of every month during the football season, apart from December. The venue is Old Chelmsfordians Clubhouse, Roxwell Road, Chelmsford and meetings start at 8.00 p.m. Over the past few years we have welcomed a variety of Guest speakers ranging from top Premier League Referees, Assessors, local Football League Managers to speakers giving us guidance on diet and nutrition. We also hold a number of in-house training sessions to re-visit some of those contentious issues which keep us awake at night!.
